Purpose and Aim:

To introduce learners to the techniques, processes and media for painting with Acrylics.


The learner will: The learner can:
1.  Be able to use acrylic painting techniques.
1.1 Create artwork that shows acrylic painting techniques.
2.  Be able to use acrylic mediums.
2.1 Identify how acrylic mediums are used.
2.2 Create artwork that uses acrylic mediums.
3.  Be able to reflect on acrylic artwork.
3.1 Use peer group support to review acrylic artwork.


Assessment Methods:

Assessment Information:

AC 1.1 Art work must evidence a minimum of three techniques.

Acrylic painting techniques:

  • flat wash
  • graded wash
  • variegated wash
  • glazing
  • impasto
  • sgraffito
  • brush marks.

Acrylic mediums:

  • primers(gesso)
  • cracking medium
  • marbling medium
  • fabric medium
  • flow medium
  • retarder medium
  • texture medium
  • fluid medium.

AC 2.1 The use of a minimum of five mediums must be identified.

AC 2.2 Art work must evidence a minimum of three mediums.
