Purpose and Aim:

To introduce knowledge and skills in the use of sewing machine stitching techniques and attachments.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The learner will: The learner can:
1.  Be able to use sewing machine for stitching.
1.1 Produce samples of machine stitching techniques.
1.2 Produce samples of machine stitching using attachments.
1.3 Produce machine sewing samples to show alterations in tension.
2.  Be able to prepare for sewing.
2.1 Produce a plan to sew an item.
2.2 Cut out the fabric.
3.  Be able to demonstrate sewing machine skills.
3.1 Use stitching techniques to assemble an item.
4.  Be able to reflect on the use of sewing machine skills.
4.1 Review sewing machine skills in the production of an item.

 

Assessment Methods:

There is no assessment information available for this unit. Assessments used should be fit for purpose for the unit and learners, and generate evidence of achievement for all the assessment criteria.

Assessment Information:

AC 1.1 A minimum of 3 samples must be given for example: � Straight Stitching � Zig-zag � Machine embroidery � Rolled hem � Gathering � Top-stitching.

AC 1.2 A minimum of 2 samples must be given.

AC 2.1 Examples of the size and complexity of the construction: a small bag, cushion, scarf.  A plan to sew an item must include the selection of: � A pattern or template � Fabric and thread � Equipment for cutting and sewing � Machine sewing techniques � Samples � Sequence of working.

AC 3.1 A minimum of 3 types of stitching must be used.

Assessor Requirements:
